Northern Lights illuminate the night sky in Southern New England

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — If you were up early this morning, or had the chance to take a look outside – chances are you could have caught a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Photos are being shared all over social media of the light show that was seen in in the sky throughout Southern New England.
A G3 (strong) storm was confirmed by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center in response to a coronal mass ejection (CME) passing by Earth.
According to NOAA, Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are large expulsions of plasma and magnetic field from the Sun’s corona.
Experts say it’s easier to see the bright color of the lights through your phone screen.
