The death of a man who was killed during a standoff with police in Norton has been determined a suicide.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s office say an autopsy concluded that 48-year-old Kevin J. Murray, of Norton, killed himself by means of a single gun shot wound to the head.
The standoff happened at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a home on Azalea Road when officers to a caller who said she had a fight with her boyfriend, Murray, and that there were weapons in the home.
The woman told police Murray took steps to access a firearm located in a wall safe that he tore from the wall as she left.
When officers approached the residence, they were fired upon through the entry door with a window. An officer immediately returned fire.
After a short period of time, officers heard another shot fired inside the house. Upon entry, they found Murray dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Police say the woman had visible injuries but wasn’t hospitalized and no officers were injured. The woman’s brother tells ABC6 that the two had been dating for about six months.
