JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman who is a nun and teacher at St. Rocco’s Church and School in Johnston is seriously hurt after she was struck by a car.

Johnston police said 55-year-old Daisy Kollamparampil was trying to cross the street at Atwood Avenue in the crosswalk in front of the church around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A Nissan Rogue stopped to let her cross, when police say it was rear ended by a Dodge Durango.

The impact caused the Rogue to hit Kollamparampil.

She was brought to Rhode Island Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said impaired driving was not a factor in the incident.

No criminal charges were filed, but the driver of the Durango was cited with multiple motor vehicle violations.
