BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Brigham and Women’s Hospital nurses voted in overwhelming numbers to authorize a one-day strike.

Following reports of unsustainable and unsafe working conditions, 2,507 nurses voted yes for the strike as a contract is negotiated to address the hospital’s “ongoing failure to recruit and retain the nurses necessary for safe patient care and quality work conditions.”

The strike vote comes after they held 28 bargaining sessions over 10 months.

The vote does not a mean a strike will take place, but the Massachusetts Nurses Association Bargaining Committee will schedule a strike based on how management proceeds in negotiations.

Faulkner nurses from Faulkner Hospital will vote later today.
