President Obama declares a major disaster exists in Rhode Island and has ordered Federal Aid to help repair the damage from the severe winter storm.

The Federal Aid is to help the supplement state, tribal and local recuperation efforts.
Costs include storm preparedness, snow elimination efforts, staff overtime expenses due to work related with the storm, repair to storm damaged buildings, road and rail network, and projects to alleviate effects for future damage from comparable storms.

The damage associated with the winter storm is estimated at 4.7 million dollars.

The Federal funding is also available to the state, tribal and qualified local governments and certain nonprofit organizations on a cost distribution basis for urgent work and repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the storm throughout the period of January 26-28 in the counties of Bristol, Kent, Newport, Washington and Providence.
Money is available to state and qualified local governments on a cost distribution for snow aid for a constant 48 hour period throughout the incident for the counties of Bristol, Kent, Providence, Washington and Newport.

Financial support is also available on a cost distribution basis for hazard mitigation events statewide.

Governor Gina Raimondo said “I am thankful to the White House for processing our request, and I am incredibly grateful for the hard work and the leadership of the Congressional Delegation to make this critical support possible.”

According to the Associated Press, the state will receive over seven million dollars in funds.
