Officer assaulted at ACI in Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — An officer was assaulted Tuesday at the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston.

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections confirmed that an assault occurred and said the alleged assailant would be criminally charged.

The correctional officer shared photos of lacerations to his face and a statement regarding the incident on social media.

RIDOC said in a statement that “supports are made available to any correctional officer or staff member who may be assaulted.”

Officials did not specify as to when the assault took place.
