Officer-involved shooting in Stonington kills Connecticut State Police K-9

STONINGTON, Conn. (WLNE) — A Connecticut State Police K-9 was killed and serious injuries were reported after an officer-involved shooting in Stonington.

State police arrived in Stonington on Thursday night to serve an active felony arrest warrant held by the Norwich Police Department and a search warrant in a separate investigation.

Troopers were trying to serve the warrants at a residence on Mechanic Street in the village of Pawcatuck around 7:30 p.m. when the shooting occurred.

Police said there were serious injuries, and that K-9 Broko was killed in the line of duty.

“K-9 Broko courageously gave his life protecting his handler, fellow troopers, and our community,” police said.

“K-9 Broko was not just a loyal companion; he was a hero in every sense, embodying the values of courage, loyalty, selflessness, and the highest standards of the Connecticut State Police. His sacrifice will forever be etched in our hearts, and never be forgotten,” police continued.

Police did not provide any further information on the shooting Friday morning.

Authorities noted there is no threat to the public.

The incident is under investigation by the Office of the Inspector General, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in Connecticut.
