Officials advise against contact with Newport pond due to blue-green algae

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) are recommending that people avoid Almy Pond in Newport due to a blue-green algae bloom.
RIDOH and DEM are advising that all recreational activities such as swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking be avoided.
The organizations are also urging people to not ingest water or eat fish from the pond and to keep pets away from the water.
