Officials break ground on new Pawtucket High School at McCoy Stadium site

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The official groundbreaking for the new Unified Pawtucket High School happened Thursday, at the site of former McCoy Stadium.

Officials told ABC6 that the project is the largest and most expensive school project in Rhode Island’s history, with the total project budget coming in at $326 million.

The new Unified High School will be uniting Tolman Senior High School and Shea Senior High School into one campus.

This will be the home to around 2,100 students, and the new school will offer an integrated high school offering academic programs and career & technical education programs.

The stadium has been vacant since 2019, formerly home to the Pawtucket Red Sox, who are now the Worcester Red Sox.

Officials said the school is set to be finished by fall of 2029 when they’ll welcome students for their new learning experience.
