Officials from both parties react to Election night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials from both parties have been reacting as election results roll in.

At the Democratic Party headquarters in Providence, Mayor Brett Smiley said that the party has not drawn any conclusions from the races that have been called so far.

“The races that have been called so far have not been a surprise; traditionally Democratic states are voting Democratic and traditionally Republican states are voting Republican,” Smiley said. “We’re not drawing any conclusions from that we have a long couple of hours and maybe even days ahead.”

Meanwhile, at the Republic Headquarters, Senate candidate Patricia Morgan accused Democratic officials of committing voter fraud by handing out “defaced ballots.”

The state Board of Elections, however, said that no ballot tampering took place.

Morgan said she still filed a complaint with the board.

“They had taken a ballot, an official ballot, they had whited out all of the Republican names, and filled in the circles for all the Democrats, and they were handing that to voters as they went in. My understanding is voters that went inside then were confused because it said ‘official ballot.’ It didn’t say sample.” Morgan said. “That’s illegal, that’s supposed to go to the Board of Elections, and there should be a fine that’s associated with that, because what they did is that they confused the voters in Portsmouth and that’s election interference at the very least.”
