Officials investigating after fire in Providence

Firefighters were on scene in Providence for a code red fire on E. George Street on Wednesday, August 14. (WLNE).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence officials are investigating after extinguishing a fire on 87 E. George Street in Providence.

The Providence Fire Department responded to a reported code red fire just before 10 a.m.

Eight tenants at the home made it out safely, and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.

Fire officials were seen investigating on the top floor of the multi-family home after the fire was put out.

According to Chief Derek Silva, one firefighter was taken to the hospital to get checked out.

There were no other reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
