Officials issue fireworks safety, boating under the influence advisories for holiday weekend
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As you prepare for your 4th of July celebrations, the Rhode Island Fire Marshal is reminding residents how to stay safe with personal fireworks.
Fire Marshal Tim McLaughlin said the best way to stay safe from fireworks is to not use them at all.
He also noted personal fireworks are illegal to own in Rhode Island.
The only exceptions are handheld sparklers, and even then, children under 16 should not use them.
Warwick police are also issuing a lesser heard public reminder; do not drink and boat.
The department said that their marine units will be conducting boating under the influence patrols throughout Warwick’s waters this weekend.
They’re telling the public to “boat responsibly, and help keep our waterways safe for everyone.”
