CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island health officials have recommended that Ninigret Pond Beach in Charlestown be reopened to swimming.

The state Health Department closed the beach Thursday because of high bacteria counts in the water. Health officials said Friday the bacteria levels had returned to acceptable limits and swimming is again safe.

Officials continually monitor water quality throughout the summer to ensure safe conditions for swimmers.

Water testing is done by the health department or a laboratory certified by the state.
