Officials rescue Massachusetts woman who drove car into pond

HOPEDALE, Mass. (WLNE)- A Massachusetts woman needed to be rescued after driving her car into a pond on Friday night.

Officials said that the woman drove through a stop sign and then an intersection before plummeting into the water.

The crash happened at around 8:25 p.m. Friday at Spindleville Pond in Hopedale.

The woman was able to escape the sinking vehicle through the sunroof, according to the fire chief. Firefighters were then able to rescue her from the roof of the vehicle.

She was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Crews were able to remove the car from the water after about an hour.
