Officials to break ground on affordable housing development on Atwells in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — U.S. Senator Jack Reed will join Mayor Brett Smiley and One Neighborhood Builders to break ground on a new affordable housing developed called “The Avenue” today.

Once completed, “The Avenue,” located on Atwells Avenue, will offer 85 units in total, 39 of them which are newly constructed.

According to a release, every apartment will be available for low-income renters, while 25 percent of units will be reserved for Rhode Islanders who are extremely low-income.

The construction will also include approximately 3,200 square feet of new commercial space.

Reed is supporting over $20 million in federal funding for the project.

The ground breaking will take place at 10 a.m.
