Old Charlesgate Apartments building to serve as emergency homeless shelter

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials with the Rhode Island Department of Housing and Amos House have opened a new emergency homeless shelter.

The shelter at the old Charlesgate Apartments on Randall Street has 16 beds and is open to people 55 and older.

Organizers are working to get another two dozen beds ready to go by March.

It’s being paid for with $1.2 million from the state’s “consolidated homeless fund.”
