Olneyville New York System raises $27,000 for RI Food Bank

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The local wiener joint that has served as a Rhode Island staple for decades, Olneyville New York System, went “all the way” in raising money for Rhode Island’s Food Bank.
Olneyville New York System announced that they successfully raised $27,000 from their original sign auction, to aid in feeding those in need.
The Food Bank’s Chief Philanthropy Officer, Lisa Blackman, shared with ABC 6, “We were excited when Greg Stevens reached out to us with this idea.”
Blackman expressed, “Olneyville New York System is such an iconic food brand in Rhode Island, but we were still surprised by the success of the auction and how much interest there was in owning a piece of their history.”
“These funds will support our work of distributing nutritious, culturally relevant food to the 80,000 Rhode Islanders a month who visit our member agencies. We’re so grateful for donors like this, who use their resources and connections to benefit the Food Bank in fun and innovative ways,” she further added.
In addition to this recent victory, there have been rumors that Olneyville will be closing its doors.
The local restaurant shared Tuesday on X that Rhode Islanders do not have to worry about that anytime soon.
No, absolutely not.
There have been some rumors that we’ve been sold, are for sale, or we’re closing… not true! #olneyville #providence #rhodeisland #hotwieners #coffeemilk #since1946 pic.twitter.com/E5EHQ0Ipl7
