PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Local 26 announced that 83% of Omni Providence Hotel workers voted to authorize a labor strike.

The vote resulted in 165 “yes” votes and four “No” votes.

Local 26 said that the hotel’s union contract expired on Jan. 31, meaning a strike could start at any time.

Demands workers are fighting for include wage increases, improved pension benefits and fewer obstacles in hiring.

ABC 6 has reached out to Omni for further comment and is waiting for a response.
