One dead following crash in Smithfield, state police investigating

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE)- The Rhode Island State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened on Route 295 North on Tuesday night.

The driver, 48-year old David Houde Jr. of Smithfield, drifted off of the left side of the highway and crashed into a rock.

Police say that the crash happened about one mile south of Route 7 at about 11:25 p.m.

Houde was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
