Police ID driver killed in Coventry accident

Police have identified the driver killed in a Coventry crash early Monday morning.

The driver, 20-year-old Matthew Colwell, of West Warwick, was pronounced dead on scene after his vehicle crashed into a telephone pole at the intersection of Main Street and Gail Court.

Police say Colwell was traveling at a high rate of speed on Flat River Road around 2 a.m. Officers tried conducting a traffic stop but were unable to catch up, later finding Colwell’s vehicle into the pole.

The accident is still under investigation.
