NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — One person was taken to the hospital after a fire in North Kingstown on Tuesday that left two without a home.

North Kingstown Fire Chief Scott Kettelle said a call came in around 3:30 p.m. reporting a plume of smoke in the area of Fletcher Road.

Police were first to the scene, according to Kettelle, who said officers found flames engulfing a garage and a person inside the adjacent home.

Authorities assisted the person inside the house and took them to South County Hospital to be treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Kettelle said the home should be repairable but added that two adults will be temporarily displaced by the fire.

The State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the blaze, which was extinguished in about 25 minutes, according to Kettelle.
