ABC6 STORMTRACKER WEATHER: One more day of heat and humidity
Unsettled tomorrow through Friday, leading into a great weekend
Yesterday was an extremely hot one – in fact, we broke daily high temperature records across Southern New England. Providence and New Bedford broke records that were set in 2002, with high temperatures of 97 and 95, respectively. Today will still be hot and humid, but temperatures won’t quite be record-breaking. Highs this afternoon will climb into the low 90s for most, and heat index values will be in the upper 90s. We have a chance for a spot shower/storm late this afternoon and into this evening, but not all of us will see one.
Things turn much more unsettled tomorrow as a frontal system approaches. Expect a mostly dry start with a few showers, but after about lunchtime the heavy rain moves in. We could even see a few embedded thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon/evening. One thing we are concerned about is the amount of rainfall with this system – we could see 1-2″ of rainfall where the heaviest bands set up. This is on top of an already soggy July we’ve had, so this could lead to localized flooding concerns.
Friday starts with some showers but gradually clears out – it will also be the coolest day this week, with temperatures at or around the 70 degree mark.
The good news is, this weekend is looking fantastic! Lots of sunshine and low humidity, with temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s. It remains calm to start off next week, as well.
Have a great Wednesday!
