Dolphin rescued from Assonet River

A dolphin was rescued from the waters of the Assonet River in Hathaway Park.
Freetown Animal Control and The National Marine Fishery Service spent the majority of the morning trying to free the animal.
Officials managed to capture the dolphin at around 3 p.m. Saturday.
The dolphin was first spotted off the shoreline of Cove Lane Friday at about 6 p.m.
Witnesses say the beached dolphin had a hard time trying to free itself. They estimate the dolphin had been beached for approximately 8-10 hours.
The dolphin is currently in custody of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, where he is recieving medical attention to reassure it is in good health, before its released into the ocean.
