Owner of ‘Country Kitchen’ in Seekonk closing diner after 40 years
SEEKONK, Mass. (WLNE) — A diner that’s been a staple in Seekonk for decades is closing its doors.
Mark Chandley bought the “Country Kitchen” from his parents back in 1985.
Now, after almost 40 years, the 68-year-old Seekonk native says he’s ready to retire, announcing the decision to close the diner on social media.
Chandley said the outpouring of support since then has been overwhelming.
“I think we’ve done a lot of good,” he said. “We’ve made a lot of friends, and a lot of them have become family. It’s been a good way to live.”
In saying goodbye to what’s been a second home, Chandley said it has been an emotional week.
The owner noted there are a few prospective buyers, with one of them intending to keep the building as a diner moving forward if they can come to an agreement.
The diner will remain open through Sunday, Dec. 22.
