Owner of former Harborside Inn location applies to replace historic hotel

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The owner of the lot that used to house the historic Harborside Inn has applied to construct a new building that would replace it.

According to town council documents obtained by ABC 6 News, on Monday, Nov. 27, Glen Fontecchio applied for the construction of a replacement structure to be built at the now-vacant 41 Water St. location.

According to public records, the land where the historic hotel used to sit is owned by VVO Real Estate Holding LLC and was appraised at a value of $4,371,100 back in 2022.

The Harborside Inn burned down back in August after a fire broke out in the kitchen of the hotel.

No injuries were reported, though several businesses were affected and the Block Island School was used as a temporary emergency shelter to house about 60 displaced hotel guests.
