Paddle for Progress raises funds for breast cancer

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The second annual Paddle for Progress Fun Paddle was held in Wickford Harbor Sunday.

Organizers said the event featured around 100 participants who raised “50 percent more” money than the first event.

“Paddle for Progress was founded by a mother-daughter duo who both survived breast cancer after being diagnosed within 100 days of each other and treated at Lifespan Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic,” the organization added.

Deb Shapiro, one-half of the duo, said that they had a “full crew” on the waterfront for the event.

“It was a great time for people to be out on the water as a community,” she said.
