Panhandler hit on Elmwood Ave.

Providence, R.I.-  A pandhandler was hit at the corner of Elmwood Ave and Broad St. Friday afternoon.  The accident occurred around 3:30 pm.

Robert O’Malley was holding a sign in front of the Shell gas station located at 5 Elmwood Ave when he was struck by a vehicle that veered off the road, jumped the sidewalk and hit him.

The victim suffered injuries to his back, arms, right leg and hips and was transported to RI Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, Ryan Gribbin, was charged with DUI/Observation and is being held until his arraignment on Monday in 6th District Court.  Gribbin was also issued a summons for Chemical Test Refusal, Right Half of Road and was given a court date of July 12th at the RI Traffic Tribunal.
