Parking at state beaches free on Governor’s Bay Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A Rhode Island summer tradition kicks off this weekend.
The annual Governor’s Bay Day celebration on Sunday means parking at all state beaches will be free.
Residents may also fish in state salt waters without a license.
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is waiving roundtrip fare on all service to South County beaches on Route 66.
Free activities will be offered at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett, including a sand sculpture contest, arts and crafts, music and environmental education.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo and her family will join the festivities from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The governor’s office says parking will be free at state beaches in Charlestown, South Kingstown, Westerly and Narragansett.
