FOXBORO, MASS. (WLNE) – Tuesday night was a special night at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots, fresh off their win against the Bills Monday night, were celebrating in a very different way.
The Patriots hosted 40 pediatric cancer patients for a Halloween party. Those 40 kids were joined by Patriots players, cheerleaders, and Pat Patriot himself. The Halloween party was complete with costumes, pumpkin painting, trick or treating, and all sorts of other Halloween themed activities.
For Amanda Melendez, whose 3 year old son Jonathan is fighting brain cancer, the party was an important escape from the day to day life of cancer treatments.
Melendez says, “He has chemo, so we found out during chemo. To have somewhere to bring him, because he can’t really be around too many people, I just think it’s nice. It’s pretty cool that they take time out of their day.”
The party was part of the New England Patriots Foundation, a non-profit started by Robert Kraft, with the goal of helping New England youth and families. But for the kids there, it was just chance to have a great time celebrating Halloween without any other cares in the world.
