The New England Patriot’s franchise was front and center on day 37 of the Aaron Hernandez murder trial. Owner Robert Kraft was called to the witness stand where he spent about thirty minutes. Prosecutors asked Kraft about his former players visit to Gillette Stadium two days after the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Kraft testified that Hernandez was in the weight room. They went into a small office and Kraft says he asked Hernandez about the incident. At that point the ex-football star had already been linked to the case and media was swarming outside. Kraft says he considered Hernandez part of his extended Patriot’s family and wanted to help him.

“He said he was not involved. That he was innocent and that he hoped that the time of the murder incident caem out because he said he was in a club,” testified Kraft.

Kraft testified that Hernandez hugged, kissed and thanked him for his concern. Outside of court Kraft expressed sympathy for the family of Odin Lloyd.

“A man died. That’s sad. This is about a man being killed. That’s unfortunate,” he told reporters.

Also on the stand Tuesday was Patriot’s head of security Mark Briggs. Briggs testified about specifically asking Hernandez why he lawyered up. He says Hernandez kept proclaiming his innocence.

“He swore on his baby’s life that he was telling the truth,” testified Briggs.

Hernandez’s first murder trial is winding down. Prosecutors expect to rest their case on Thursday. The judge is expected to hear motions on Friday. Then on Monday the defense is looking to wrap up their case. After that will be closing arguments and then the jury will be charged and begin deliberations.
