Pawtucket barbershop opens to offer free hair cuts for inner-city children
PAWTUCKET, RI (WLNE) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday for a special new barber shop in Pawtucket.
Haircuts and Heritage is a program that gives free haircuts to students to students in Pawtucket, Central Falls, and Providence. It will also offer mentoring.
Students will be referred by their school district to receive a cut at no cost.
During their appointment, a guest speaker of color will come meet with them to talk about their hobbies and ambitions.
“When these kids come here for a haircut they get to sit down for an hour,” Kobi Dennis of Haircuts and Heritage said. “We might give them a snack, we may give them a book, we’re gonna give them plenty of information, and we’re going to give them plenty of smiles and positive reinforcement. It’s more than a cut. That’s not just our slogan. It’s what we live by.”
People can start booking appointments on Monday, Oct. 4.
The program starts two weeks later on Oct. 18.
