Pawtucket employee fired over ‘offensive and inappropriate’ social media comment
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A Pawtucket city employee has been fired following a social media post.
In a statement on Twitter, Mayor Donald Grebien shared that the employee had shared an offensive comment online where there employment with the city was publicly listed.
Grebien shared that upon learning of the comment, the city took immediate action by conducting an internal investigation into misconduct with a pre-termination hearing.
Ultimately, the employee was fired.
“These comments have no place in the City of Pawtucket or anywhere else. I am relieved that we have come to a decision that will support the City’s respect of all residents,” said Grebien.
Recently an individual shared an offensive comment on their Facebook page, where their employment with the City was publicly listed. After an internal investigation into misconduct and a pre-termination hearing, the individual in question is no longer employed by the city. (1/2)
