Pawtucket man convicted of 2020 murder of girlfriend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Pawtucket man has been convicted in the 2020 domestic murder of his girlfriend after a five-day jury trial in Providence Superior Court, according to the office of Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.

Victor Colebut, 46, was found guilty on February 24 of one count of domestic second-degree murder, one count of domestic assault, third offense and one count of domestic criminal violation of a no contact order, third offense.

Police responded to the Pawtucket residence on February 17, 2020 after a 911 call about an unknown medical emergency.

Police discovered Kristine Ohler, 30, unresponsive in Colebut’s residence with visible facial injuries.

She was transported to Miriam Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Colebut was detained at the scene and admitted to police that he and victim had argued while he was intoxicated.

Neighbors confirmed the argument had occurred earlier.

Colebut violated a recent no contact order with Ohler that was issued after a violent incident.

The investigation determined that Colebut had strangled Ohler to death in the home.

Colebut will be held at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending sentencing on April 28.
