Pawtucket Police announce arrest in shooting

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket Police have announced an arrest following a shooting that happened yesterday afternoon.
20-year-old Jose Medina Alvarez was arrested for numerous charges including; felony assault, drive by shooting, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, carrying a pistol without a license, and firing in a compact area.
According to a release, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Pawtucket Police responded to the corner of West Avenue at Jefferson Street for a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival officers located a crime scene with multiple shell casings on the ground as well as blood.
An investigation by detectives uncovered that a suspect’s vehicle approached the scene and two individuals exited.
The victim, an adult male age 19, exited a store and shots were fired by one suspect at the victim hitting him several times.
Both assailants fled the scene and shoot as they drive off.
The victim’s friends who were on scene transported the victim to an area hospital.
Officers and investigators were able to obtain a vehicle description, and were able to locate and detain three individuals.
Alvarez would eventually be charged.
The victim still remains in critical condition.
