Pawtucket police release bodycam footage of arrest following officer-involved shooting

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket city officials have released body camera footage from the officer-involved shooting incident in June.

Some of the images may be disturbing to some viewers.

Officials sent over camera footage from the eight officers who responded to reports of a man with a gun on Broad and Exchange Streets on June 8.

This is footage worn by officer Thomas Letourneau, the officer who shot 28-year-old Sebastian Yidana in the shoulder.

Other responding officers can be seen officers tending to him.

It was reported Yidana was threatening residents with a rifle.

Further angles show the initial confusion among officers about the whereabouts of the weapon.

Officials confirmed that the gun Yidana was holding was a plastic replica.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and felony assault.

Officer Letourneau was put on leave as the attorney general and Rhode Island State Police continue their investigation into the shooting.

Notably, Black Lives Matter Rhode Island is inviting community members to join a community listening session regarding accounts of police misconduct, excessive use of force and abuses of authority.

That’s scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 10, but they ask residents to confirm attendance by July 5.
