PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Pawtucket Police Department said a man was held without bail after he allegedly robbed a Gulf Express under threat of shooting on Aug. 3.

60-year-old Robert Smith was charged with first degree robbery.

Around 9 p.m., police alleged Smith entered the convenience store, told the clerk he had a gun, and threatened to shoot him in the head.

He then allegedly stole cash and ran from the scene.

On Aug. 4, detectives were able to identify the suspect vehicle, which officers were able to pull over during a traffic stop.

Police identified the operator of the vehicle as Smith and confirmed he was the alleged suspect for the robbery.

Smith was charged and arraigned in district court on Tuesday.
