Pawtucket School Committee votes to elevate Buck to interim superintendent

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Pawtucket School Committee voted Monday night to name acting superintendent Randy Buck to the position of Interim Superintendent.
Buck was appointed as acting superintendent following the administrative leave from former superintendent Patricia Royal, who recently resigned from the position.
Royal has also filed a lawsuit against the school committee and city claiming she faced racial discrimination and harassment.
The Pawtucket School Committee has denied the claims in the lawsuit.
Buck will stay on as interim superintendent until a permanent appointment is made.
In a statement regarding Buck’s appointment, Pawtucket School Committee Chair Omar Reyes said:
As chair I am excited that Pawtucket has chosen to continue the progress that we have made under interim superintendent Randy Buck’s leadership. He is a truly remarkable leader and an even more remarkable human. Our kids and teachers love him and in a state where there are 7 superintendent vacancies I am glad that we have Randy Buck for a little longer until we figure what we will do to get to appointing a permanent superintendent. Randy truly embodies the values that I like to see in a superintendent.
