Pawtucket woman who confessed to stabbing mother to death held without bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Pawtucket woman arrested in connection to her mother’s death was held without bail Monday.

Sharita Watkins, 28, faces a first degree domestic violence murder charge after she allegedly called 911 Saturday night and admitted to stabbing her mother.

Officers responded to her home on Manton Street and found Mary Melendez, 53, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Melendez was brought to Rhode Island Hospital, where she died.

Detectives said Watkins later gave a full confession.

No further information on the alleged attack was released in court on Monday.

Watkins has a status conference set for Oct. 4.
