PC Friars Knock Off Memphis, Advance To Emerald Coast Classic Championship Game

DESTIN, Fla. – The Providence College men’s basketball team defeated the Memphis Tigers, 60-51, on Friday, November 25, 2016 in Destin, Fla. in the third round of the Emerald Coast Classic. The Friars move 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Tourney. Providence will play No. 7/6 Virginia at 7 p.m. ET in the championship game of the Emerald Coast Classic on Saturday on CBS Sports Network.
Junior Emmitt Holt (Webster, N.Y.) put the Friars on the board in the opening minutes of play. After trailing by as many as 12 points during the first frame, the Friars closed the gap in the final minute of play to just one point (30-29).
During the first half the Tigers led for 18:13 with the greatest lead at 12 points with 4:27 minutes remaining. The Friars concluded the opening frame shooting 10-of-29 from the field. The team was led by Holt and Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) with eight points each. Memphis was 12-of-31 from the field and was led by Dedric Lawson on nine points.
