PC Friars Manhandle Stonehill in Exhibition Game at the Dunk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s basketball team defeated the Stonehill College Skyhawks, 93-49, in an exhibition matchup on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Junior forward Tyler Harris led the Friars in points (19) going 8-of-14 from the field. He also led the team in rebounding with eight boards.

The first half closed with Providence leading, 40-27. Freshman guard Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) led all scorers in the first half, with 10 points as he shot 4-of-7 from the floor, including two 3-pointers.

The Friars shot 44 percent (14-of-32) from the floor and 46 percent (5-of-11) from the 3-point arc in the first 20 minutes of action.

Freshman Isaiah Bess led the Skyhawks with eight points (2-of-4 3pts) in the half.

The Friars shot 55 percent in the second half, including a 75 percentage for free throws.

For the game, Providence shot 36-of-72 from the field (50%), including 8-of-19 from 3-point territory (42%).

Defensively, Cartwright and senior LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) each chipped in with four steals. The Friars held Stonehill to 12-of-56 shooting (21%). They also forced the Skyhawks to make 18 turnovers.

In addition to Harris’ 19 points, four other Friars scored in double figures. Cartwright finished with 18 points and four assists. Henton chipped in with 16 points and sophomore Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) and freshman Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.) each added 13 points.

The Friars will return to action in their season opener on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center to take on Albany. Prior to the game, the team will unveil its 2014 BIG EAST Championship banner.
