PC Gives AD Bob Driscoll at 2-Year Contract Extension
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR BOB DRISCOLL SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION
Driscoll's two-year extension will keep him with the Friars through the 2017-18 academic year.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today that Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll has been given a two-year contract extension, which will retain his services through the 2017-18 academic year. Providence College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. made the announcement on Wednesday, September 7.
“Our department has seen unprecedented growth under the direction of Bob Driscoll,” Father Shanley said. “Under some of the most extreme scrutiny, Bob has helped guide our athletics department through some challenging times. He also has helped spearhead a myriad of facility upgrades both on and off campus, with the Dunkin' Donuts Center coming to the forefront. Lastly, I am proud to say that we worked diligently to bring one of our own home to Providence with the recent hire of men's basketball coach Ed Cooley, in addition to securing a highly regarded hockey coach in Nate Leaman.”
Driscoll is entering his 10th year at the helm of the Friar athletic department. During his tenure, he was named Astro Turf Athletics Director of the Year for the Division I Northeast Region. In five of his nine years on Smith Hill, he has helped to lead the Friars to a top-100 finish in the NACDA Directors' Cup Standings, with consistent top-20 finishes among NCAA Division I-AAA colleges and universities (non-FBS/FCS institutions). During the 2010-11 sports calendar, the Friars finished eighth in the Directors' Cup standings among Division I-AAA institutions. Driscoll also was honored in 2009 by his alma mater, Ithaca College, where he received the Distinguished Sport Industry Leader award during alumni weekend. Most recently, he was elected as Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Secretary.
“I'm truly honored to serve as Athletics Director at Providence College,” Driscoll said. “Father Shanley has been a pillar of support not only for the College community as a whole, but for the vision of our athletics department. I am humbled by the confidence he has in my leadership, and I look forward to continuing to move toward our vision of becoming one of the most respected programs in the nation. I thank Father Shanley for the opportunity he has provided me. I look forward to working with him, and the great administration, staff, coaches and student-athletes we have here at Providence College.”
