PC Hockey Friars Remain Number One in Both College Polls

PC news release…

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s hockey team remained No. 1 for the sixth consecutive week in both of the national polls released on Monday (Dec. 14).  Dating back to Feb. 25, 2013, Providence has been ranked in the USCHO.com poll for 74 straight weeks.

The Friars were a unanimous No. 1 selection in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, earning all 34 first-place votes, while garnering 48-of-50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll.  The 15-game unbeaten streak (12-0-3) marks the best start for a defending national champion and the eighth best start to a season overall since 1970.  Providence is the first team since the 1995-96 Colorado College Tigers to be unbeaten through Christmas and currently owns a 19-game unbeaten streak (16-0-3) dating back to last season.

Senior Nick Saracino registered two assists in Thursday’s 4-1 win over Brown, including his 100th career point to become the 50th Friar to achieve that feat.

Providence will begin the second half of the season against #9 Cornell on Dec. 28 at the Florida College Hockey Classic in Estero, Fla.  The following night, the Friars will battle either Boston College or Ohio State.
