PC Hockey Team Still Top Ranked, Jankowski Hockey East Player of the Weelk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the third consecutive week, the Providence College men’s hockey team topped both of the national polls released on Monday (Nov. 23).
The Friars boasted 36-of-50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll, while earning 18-of-34 first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. Dating back to last season, Providence is unbeaten in 15 consecutive games (12-0-3), which marks the longest such streak in school history.
Boston College sits as this week’s runner-up in the polls, followed by Quinnipiac, UMass Lowell, and North Dakota.
The 8-0-3 Friars will battle No. 9/10 Yale this upcoming Saturday night at Schneider Arena in the first meeting between the teams since 1998.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – It was announced by the Hockey East on Monday (Nov. 23) that Providence College men’s hockey’s Mark Jankowski was named Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week after a four-point performance for the top-ranked Friars’ weekend sweep of Northeastern.
Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) netted two power play goals on Friday night, including the game-winner, and followed up that performance with the game-winning strike and an assist in Saturday night’s 3-0 win at Matthews Arena. He now has notched 10 game-winning goals in his career.
For the season, Jankowski ranks second on the Friars in scoring with 15 points (7-8-15) and sits in a six-way tie for the national lead in power play goals (5). He becomes the fourth Friar to be named Hockey East Player of the Week this season, joining teammates Trevor Mingoia (Oct. 12), Jake Walman (Nov. 2), and Nick Ellis (Nov. 16).
Providence will host No. 10 Yale this Saturday night at Schneider Arena in the first meeting between the schools since 1998.
