WARWICK, R.I. – Commemorations took place at Pearl Harbor and across the country on Wednesday; marking the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack in Hawaii.
One of the last remaining survivors of the USS Arizona, a Warwick native, passed away this past September at the age of 94.
Back in the day, 19-year-old Raymond Haerry was stationed aboard the USS Arizona when the Japanese began their attack on Pearl Harbor.
Haerry’s son says people need to remember the sacrifices his dad and many others made.
“I consider my father and his crew mates the first true american heroes of world war two,” said Ray Haerry Jr. “We have to keep their memories alive, and never forget what they did , and who they are.”
There are now only five survivors from the USS Arizona still alive today.
