Pedestrian hit by car in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said a pedestrian riding a scooter was struck by a vehicle on Chalkstone Avenue Wednesday morning.
Around 7:51 a.m., the operator of the scooter was crossing the road when a vehicle traveling westbound collided with the scooter.
Sergeant Shawn Slade of Rhode Island State Police, who witnessed the accident, said he saw the pedestrian thrown a short distance after being hit, and was almost struck by another vehicle.
The pedestrian moved himself to the sidewalk where he was later tended to by rescue personnel.
According to Sgt. Slade, the vehicle was going about five miles per hour.
Police said a witness told them she saw the scooter weaving in and out of vehicles prior to the collision, and that the scooter did not look when crossing the road.
After the incident, the pedestrian complained of right hip pain, and was transported to Roger Williams Hospital for evaluation, according to police.
The operator of the vehicle did not sustain injuries, and their vehicle sustained minor damage to the front
