The elderly man struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a road in Warwick Wednesday morning has been identified as 83-year-old Jose Dionisio.

The accident happened on the 1100 block of Main Avenue around 9:30 a.m.

Dionisio, of Warwick, was crossing the street when he was hit by a Toyota sedan operated by a 92-year-old Carmella Visinho, also of Warwick. Dionisio was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say the Dionisio was not using a crosswalk. They say neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the accident and that criminal charges are unlikely.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident is requested to contact Sgt. Earl Read of the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401)468-4293 or Traffic Officer Gregory Johnson at (401)468-4305.
