Pedestrian struck and killed in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, (WLNE) — Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III said a pedestrian was struck and killed on Acushnet Avenue on New Bedford early Thursday morning.

Quinn said the victim was 33-year-old Nicolassa Ventura Colaj.

Colaj and her family were exiting a church around midnight when she was hit by an SUV while crossing the street.

Quinn said the SUV then fled the area, and Colaj was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The crash is under investigation.
