Pedestrian struck and killed in Warwick multi-car crash

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick police are investigating a fatal Tuesday night car crash involving two vehicles and a pedestrian.

The incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 8:14 p.m. near 926 Centerville Road, according to a statement from Warwick police.

According to the investigation, 49-year-old Michael Dembkowski of Warwick ran onto Centerville Road from an address on the south side of the road.

This brought him into the path of a Subaru traveling eastbound, which struck Dembkowski.

A vehicle driving behind the Subaru stopped and the driver turned on the car’s hazard lights.

At this time, a Chevrolet Impala passed the witness vehicle on the left and struck the pedestrian who lying in the road.

An additional witness behind the Impala stopped their vehicle as well, and all cars involved in the incident remained on the scene, according to police.

Dembkowski was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 9:09 p.m.

Warwick police crash reconstruction investigators responded to the incident and are still actively investigating.

All drivers involved are fully cooperating with police, and speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors.
