Pedestrian struck, seriously injured in Dartmouth identified

An elderly woman was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Dartmouth Tuesday night.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. in front of Dartmouth High School on Russells Mills Road.

Police say evidences indicates that a 1996 Toyota Camry left the roadway and struck 78-year-old Hortense Medeiros, of Dartmouth. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Camry, 27-year-old April Pimental, of New Bedford,  was taken to St. Lukes Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
