Person arrested after shooting death at Providence Walmart

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department said a person was in custody after an apparent shooting death in the parking lot of the Silver Spring Street Walmart early Saturday morning.

Police said they arrived at the parking lot of the store around 1 a.m. to find a 51-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound inside a box truck parked near the entrance.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The suspect was still on scene and was arrested “without incident.”

Police said the suspect and victim appeared to have been known to each other and were at the Walmart to “work on the floors” when an altercation took place.
